If Weber is smart he will sign for not more than 7.5 M... he needs to be able to play with other good players... |

I dont think Mike Green is getting that overpaid. The question should have been, "If Wideman is getting over 5, what should Weber get?" If green can bounce back from injuries this deal will be a bargain. |

I don't think Green's overpaid at all. He's an elite OFD w/ average defensive skill.
I also don't regard him as a one-way player -- his superiority as an OFD shouldn't green light some pretend crutch about him being a defensive liability. Maybe in past years, but that argument reached expiry a long time ago.
Considering the deal isn't long in term when pegged against cap hit comparables like Karlsson, Doughty, and Keith -- three superior talents -- I'd say the signing was pretty fair. |

The Sabres already have a Weber.... Not even close to being as good... and likely the only Weber that will be on the team in the near future. I do not see the Sabres really pursuing him. |

Anybody stupid enough to give up that much for one player? I really hope not. |

Instead of offering all of those things, why not just offer sheet him and give up four 1st round picks?

Any team that meets those demands is instantly worse. Yes they have Weber but they just gave up 2 top 6 forwards and a top 4 defenseman. Plus 2 top flight prospects who were probably in line to fill those top6 holes. And wouldn't that be a ton of salary cap for a team like Nashville to take on? |

I doubt if anything happens with weber for a while. I would love to see something happen though this off season has been a snore fest |

No, money is not an issue in Nashville or they wouldn't even be negotiating with Weber. They're currently $14M from the floor. That's a ton of cap space that needs to be filled.

Handcuffs..
Ryan, Nash, Luongo, and Doan...
everyone is waiting to see if their offer gets them eventually.. so those teams cannot offer those pieces elsewhere to accept trades for those players in packages.

while the Preds and Weber will not put forth a deadline of sorts "publicly," one source assures me such a deadline is coming and "Chances are by Thursday or Friday it will be everywhere.."
- Eklund
Preds and Weber just extended the deadline for Weber to accept his qualifying offer until Aug. 1. If any such deadline actually exists, I would imagine it would be around that time. |

This hockey offseason sucks.
We can no longer buy teams, instead having to rely on the draft, player development, and coaching.
This is bullpoop.

I would much rather tender an offer sheet and give up the draft picks. The right team could do this and give up 4 picks in the 26-30 position. Trading assets like what Eklund suggested didn't quite work out well for Philadelphia. |

I'm pretty sure he's being offered more than what Suter just stole errrr negotiated. I don't know what the holdup is. Weber says one thing then does another ala Suter.
If he's waiting to see what Poile does with the roster he'll be waiting a long time. Aug 1 is the deadline for him to accept his qualifying offer, so we'll see. |

And here I thought the asking price for Nash was ridiculous…
One player, as good as Weber is, can’t be worth all those key pieces…what are you left with…he better be the best D ever, he would need to be playing with a striped team….
